Stilton Cheese IS from Stilton
It has been discovered that Stilton cheese did originate from Stilton in Huntingdonshire. For over 200 years it was thought the cheese was made in Melton Mowbray area and sold in Stilton. Researcher Richard Landy has now found out that a letter written in 1723 confirms that the landlord of the Bell Inn produced the best cheese in town. However, today it remains illegal to produce cheese in Stilton to a traditional receipe and call it Stilton cheese.
