Waterways

The River Great Ouse meanders through Huntingdonshire, passing lovely market towns, tranquil villages, riverside parks and open stretches of meadows with grazing cows. Picture yourself cruising cool waterways in the summer sunshine, admiring the slowly changing view. Marinas, moorings and tantalising village pubs pepper the banks of the River Great Ouse, making Huntingdonshire the ideal place for a boating holiday. Marinas can be found at Buckden, Earith, Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives, St Neots and Wyton. Several boating companies offer boats for hire for those wanting to sample the slower pace of life.

The area is also a haven for fishing enthusiasts. Why not spend a leisurely day in pursuit of a good catch? The River Great Ouse offers excellent fishing potential along with lakes at St Ives, Bromholme Lake at Brampton, Crystal Lakes at Fenstanton, Grafham Water, Hinchingbrooke Country Park and Paxton Pits Nature Reserve. Sample all kinds of water sports in Huntingdonshire. Enjoy a day sailing or windsurfing at Grafham Water. Tuition is available for Novices. For the more energetic or adventurous, there are exciting opportunities to water-ski or jet-ski at Wyboston Lakes. Rowing is a sport with which St Neots has a long association, recording many successes in national competitions. St Neots Rowing Club hosts an annual regatta in July, which is nationally known.

The club also houses St Neots Canoeing Club. During the summer, special events held on the river include raft races and dragon boat racing, which are often part of the town's carnival celebrations.
