Explore Huntingdonshire
Huntingdonshire offers a whole variety of activities to interest people of all ages. Many of the area's visitor attractions welcome children. Here are a few suggestions for a fun day out. For animal lovers, take a trip to Hamerton Zoo Park to see exotic animals housed in parkland. The zoo is also a breeding centre. At Wood Green Animal Shelter, Godmanchester, the extensive grounds are home to a wide variety of animals, including horses, donkeys, llamas, red deer and ferrets. There are also lots of dogs, cats and other animals waiting for loving homes.
Admire over 200 birds of prey at The Raptor Foundation, near Woodhurst. Many of the residents were injured or abandoned. Sit in lovely flower gardens and watch the birds fly. A journey to Wansford's Nene Valley Railway will delight all small children, especially when Thomas, the famous children's train, and his friends are at the depot. A series of special Thomas events are run throughout the year. At Christmas time, "Santa Special" services are fun filled events. Special children's events are held at leisure centres, nature reserves and country parks, together with arts events throughout the year.
